Ruth Jones, 89, of Kankakee, passed away on July 24, 2016 at her home.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1926, in Kankakee, the daughter of Floyd and Daisy (Scroggins) Palmer. Ruth married Jack Jones on Sept. 5, 1953, in Kankakee.
Ruth was a cashier for over 20 years at A and P Grocery Store in Kankakee. She was a member of Kankakee Valley Garden Club and Ikebana International. She enjoyed gardening, arranging flowers and her lily ponds.
Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Kemp, of Kankakee, and Julie Lanter, of Kankakee; six grandchildren, Elise (Steven) Williams, of Kankakee, Sarah (Matthew) Olson, of Kankakee, David Jones, of Bourbonnais, Matthew Lanter, of Tempe, Ariz., Jake Lanter, of Kankakee, and Mike Lanter, of Kankakee; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband; two sons-in-law, Steve Lanter and Charles Jones; and three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, until the 1 p.m. funeral services at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory in Kankakee. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
