William Richard Scroggin
1928-2016
William Richard Scroggin died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 25, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances Barber Scroggin, three daughters, Lin Franks, Leslie Davidson, Beth Riesner, son-in-law, Robert Riesner, grandson, Donald Christopher Franks and granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Mihalik Franks, and two great-granddaughters, Meghan and Monica Franks. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie B. Caudill, his father, William Duvall Scroggin, and his stepmother, Edna Blaise Scroggin. Dick, as he was known by his friends, grew up in Morehead, Kentucky where he attended Breckenridge High School and Morehead State University (then College). He was an athlete and played basketball and a season at semi-pro baseball and became an excellent golfer years later. He met Mary Frances when he was 17 and she was 15 and it was love at first sight. They were devoted to each other for 68 years of marriage. Dick had a long and successful career with Tennessee Gas Pipeline, then Tenneco, and was transferred to Houston in 1956. He loved music, especially the Big Band era, and could play a mean boogie-woogie on the piano. Dick will be remembered by his family and many friends for his loving supportive nature and his wonderful sense of humor. The family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate Dick's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Breckinridge Scholarship Endowment Fund for Morehead State University Foundation, 150 University Blvd., Box 1887, Morehead, KY 40351
